How to improve team performance?

Since the 1960s, team performance has begun to be seen as more than just the sum of individual skills. Efforts started to focus on team cohesion, based on the idea that improving relationships between people would lead to better results. Then came team building activities, with a focus on maximizing motivation and enthusiasm.

But today, the approach has evolved. First and foremost, we work on team coaching, aimed at optimizing the operational interactions among team members. Following the example of soccer: first, we need to ensure they know how to “pass the ball” correctly. If interactions are fluid, performance will improve, and with good results, strong relationships will naturally follow. Championship teams don’t have conflicts! 🤝

Does this mean that cohesion and team building are ineffective? No! But each has its moment:

Cohesion: If a high-performing team is not achieving the expected results (like PSG with Messi, Neymar, and Mbappé), I would work on cohesion.

Team building: Before an important event, such as a final or a product launch, for example, I would maximize motivation and enthusiasm with team building activities.

💡 In summary: to build a solid team, I would start with team coaching and then work on cohesion and team building at key moments. We see that in many companies, the way of working is not deliberately designed but rather follows standard market practices. And if our game model is standard, how can we expect extraordinary results? How can we stand out if we keep doing the same as everyone else? 🌟
